Ocean Drive enjoys a reputation much like the Las Vegas Strip as the “must see” main street of any South Beach vacation and the Clevelander Hotel stands at the very heart of the party. Earning every bit of acclaim as the setting for an endless Spring Break adventure, the hotel recently reopened following an extensive renovation that expanded the property’s bars and rooftop terraces so there’s more room to shake your moneymaker than ever before! Make no mistake, this is not a spot for a quiet vacation; the Clevelander wants to keep your glass full, your head spinning and your party going full throttle. Leave the kids at home – hotel guests must be over 21.
Originally built in 1938, renovations to the Clevelander’s 60 rooms updated the guest experience with soundproofing, black-out curtains, flat screen TVs and Egyptian cotton bedding. Sorted by location, rooms are branded Classic (double), Pool View (double) , Backstage (king), Ocean Front (King, 2 doubles, adjoining room options), and Rock Star (concierge service, 42″ HD-TVs, rooftop access) but any room overlooking the party patio may offer less sleep that you’re used to. Bathrooms are small but well appointed with modern fixtures, good water pressure and plenty of towels. Staff members are friendly and attentive with managers on site to ensure the party moves smoothly, messes get swept away and guests are handed that first frozen cocktail as soon as they check in.
Located at 10th Street and Ocean Drive, the Clevelander is at the very center of the South Beach scene. The city’s top nightclubs and bars are two streets away. The Art Deco Welcome Center is across the street offering supervised walking tours of the district or renting iPods loaded with tourist information for self-guided discoveries. The Wolfsonian Collection and World Erotic Art Museum are nearby and, most important, the beach runs for miles and miles right outside the hotel door.
Visitors who have already checked out the Clevelander for a few drinks or a lost weekend will attest to the fact that they weren’t looking for resort amenities, but rooms are indeed much improved. What’s even better are the dedicated party spaces from top to bottom which ensure there is always something going on at “The Cleve.” The hotel now features the 1020 Music Boxx dance club, the Game On sports bar, two rooftop verandas, and the notorious patio bar surrounding the street side pool where more than a few wardrobe malfunctions have taken place. Guests and barefoot beach goers gather all day and night to sip potent red rum runners, enjoy karaoke, wet t-shirt contests, theme parties and all manner of alcohol-fuelled misadventures. If you’re idea of a perfect South Beach escape involves beer, bikinis and absolutely no dress code, THIS is your hotel!
